Dr. Johanna Even

Johanna Even is the Deputy Head of Primary Schools for KIPP Schools. Johanna began her career in education in 1992 with Teach for America as a bilingual kindergarten and 1st grade teacher in Los Angeles, CA. After four years of full time classroom teaching, she returned to graduate school to pursue her master’s degree and doctorate at Harvard's Graduate School of Education. While in graduate school, she worked as a literacy coach and whole school change coach in the Boston Public Schools. After graduation, she served as the Principal of the John D. Philbrick School in Boston from 2002-2004. In 2004 she relocated to Phoenix to become the Principal of Marshall Humphrey Elementary School. She moved to Houston in July 2009 to accept her current position. She lives in Sugar Land, Texas with her husband, Duane, and her three dogs.

Mike Fitzgerald

Mike Fitzgerald is Principal of Eisenhower Junior High in Darien, Illinois. He received his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University and began working at Eisenhower in 1997. Mike has been in a position to see the building from many different perspectives, as he has worked at Eisenhower as a student-teacher, a teaching assistant, summer custodian and classroom teacher before receiving his Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University in Educational Administration. In 2002 he took over the role of Assistant Principal, and in 2006 as Principal of EJH. He has been in charge of District 61’s teacher recertification, and has been heavily involved in the district’s staff development. This past year he took over and revamped the District 61’s new teacher mentoring program. He has emphasized the importance of technology at Eisenhower by finding resources for smart technology, creating teacher and parent blogs, using Twitter(@fitzg) to find and distribute resources for his staff and has even had two virtual staff meetings. He strongly believes character education and community service need to be a big part of a students’ educational experience at the junior high level. Mike lives in Plainfield with his wife Laura and daughters Mia and Julia.
